The 31st edition of the International Poetry Festival officially opened in Havana on Monday, bringing together poets, writers, and literature enthusiasts from around the world for a week-long celebration of literary art.
Running through May 31, the festival features a diverse lineup of events including poetry readings, lectures, workshops, book presentations, and artistic performances. Activities will be held in public squares and cultural institutions across the city, transforming Havana into a vibrant hub of poetic expression.
Established in the 1990s, the festival has gained international recognition as a dynamic space for creative exchange and cultural dialogue. According to a statement from Cuba’s Ministry of Culture, the event continues to thrive as a platform where “diversity and poetic richness find a place to flourish.”
Organizers highlight the participation of poets from a variety of countries, who will explore and share their perspectives on universal themes such as love, identity, memory, and resistance. The festival, now in its third decade, underscores the enduring global relevance of poetry as a medium for reflection and connection.
