A commemorative poetry event marking the 81st anniversary of the D-Day landings will be held at Chard Guildhall on Friday, June 6, bringing together local schoolchildren, dignitaries, and members of the public.
Organised by Chard Town Council in partnership with the charity Never Such Innocence, the event will feature original poetry and spoken word performances by students from several Chard schools. The young participants will offer creative reflections on the theme of conflict, informed by workshops led by local poet Clive Sanders in the weeks leading up to the event.
The public is invited to attend the one-hour programme, which will run from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Attendance is free of charge, though organisers request that guests RSVP via email at [email protected].
Notable attendees will include Yeovil MP Adam Dance, Deputy Lord Lieutenant Olivia Winterton, and the Mayor of Chard.
The event is part of a broader effort to engage young people with history through the arts and to reflect on the significance of the Normandy landings, which began on June 6, 1944.
