Renowned writer and broadcaster Rafiq Masoodi released his latest Kashmiri-language poetry collection, Bay Pay Talaash (An Endless Search), during a literary function held in Srinagar on Sunday.
The event, organized by Majlis-ul-Nisa Sopore in collaboration with Adabi Markaz Kamraz (AMK), brought together prominent literary figures, poets, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate Masoodi’s contribution to Kashmiri literature.
Bay Pay Talaash explores themes of existential yearning, cultural identity, and collective memory, offering readers a lyrical reflection on the tensions between tradition and modernity.
Director of School Education Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Itoo, who served as the chief guest, praised Masoodi’s continued efforts to promote Kashmiri language and literature.
“Masoodi Sahib’s contribution is both artistic and cultural. Through his poetic expression, he keeps the linguistic heritage of Kashmir alive and accessible,” Itoo said.
The gathering was also attended by prominent literary voices including Prof. Shad Ramzan, Prof. Naseem Shifai, and AMK President Amin Bhat. In her remarks, Prof. Shifai noted the growing visibility of women in Kashmiri literary spaces and applauded the organizers for promoting inclusive cultural forums.
AMK President Bhat highlighted the broader societal role of literature and poetry.
“Poetry has the power to shape our narratives and deepen our understanding of ourselves as a society,” he said while congratulating Masoodi on his latest work.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Masoodi expressed gratitude to his readers and the literary community.
“Bay Pay Talaash is deeply personal, yet it resonates with every Kashmiri heart. It is my humble offering to our language and culture,” he said. “I hope it finds the same love and acceptance that my earlier works received.”
The event concluded with a series of poetic recitations and musical performances based on verses from the new collection, leaving the audience with a renewed appreciation for Kashmiri literary expression.
