Applications are now being accepted for the Upper Peninsula Poet Laureate position, with submissions open through May 31.
The two-year post is awarded to a poet who will serve as a literary ambassador for the region, promoting poetry and engaging with communities across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Martin Achatz, president of the U.P. Poet Laureate Foundation and former laureate, said the selected poet is expected to lead a project that fosters appreciation for the art form throughout the region.
“We’re looking for someone with strong experience in poetry and a personality that’s well-suited for public engagement,” Achatz said. “Equally important is a clear vision for how they intend to serve in the role.”
The position is open to anyone with a passion for poetry, regardless of formal credentials. Applicants are encouraged to bring creativity, community spirit, and a commitment to literary outreach.
